Today I made some cookies from Lebanon. They were so good and tasted the same as when I ate them last, at least as I remember them, some few years back but I had not forgotten them. They are simple to make and tastes fantastic. And Im sure you will enjoy them as much as I do.
One can have various fillings, which I will show here the future of my blog. So it’s another reason to follow me and Dinner Bank.
2 cups flour
1 tsp dry yeast
1 ½ cup water
salt
butter or oil for frying
Filling:
50 g almond paste
2 tsp rosewater
0.5 tsp lemon juice
Syrup:
½ cup sugar
½ cup water
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tsp rosewater
Dried rose petals
Mix the dough and let it get to stand and rise for an hour. It should be thicker than pancake batter but looser than bread dough.
Meanwhile, make the filling and shape them into small balls.
Grease a pie iron or bliner pan and have it on medium heat. Turn in a little batter and add a little filling on one side. Fold over the other side over the filling. Fry over low-medium heat. When one side is brown, turn. And let the other side also get color. Meanwhile, boil the syrup until it thickens a little.
When the cookies are done, turn over the syrup.
Sprinkle the rose leaves.
These sound so delicious!! I can’t wait to try them!!
