Torrijas is very similar to french toasts or Swedish Fattiga riddare. I prefer this once as I love the flavours from the zest and spices.
As the Easter getting closer, it’s time for me to share my favourite Spanish dessert Torrijas. A very famous dessert you find every where in Spain under the Easter time.
There is to way of doing them, Torrijas con leche or Torrijas con vino. Done with milk or sweet white wine.
Torrijas
- 1 egg
- 250 ml milk or sweet white wine
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 0,5 teaspoon cardamom
- 1 teaspoon lemon or orange zest
- 6 slices toast bread, cut in half’s
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Olive oil
Mix the egg, milk or wine, spices, zest and sugar. Heat up a frying pan with the oil. Dip the bread in the egg mixture and fry it in the pan until you got a nice colour on the bread. Take them up from the pan and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar. And finally sprinkle honey over them. Eat and enjoy.
