The very best Buttermilk pie – and how to make buttermilk at home


This American Buttermilk pie is to make and I show you how to make your own buttermilk. I promise the pie will not last for long as everyone wants a second pice.

As I was watching the installation of the new president of USA, I made this Buttermilk pie. Very typical in the States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

As I was growing in you could buy ready buttermilk in the shops. Remember my grandmother was very found of drinking buttermilk. But sadly the took it away from the shops. And where I lives now, they don’t do it.

Just out from the oven. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Do not worry about trying to find buttermilk to make this wonderful pie! You can do your own buttermilk very easy.

How to make your own buttermilk is easy. 250 ml (1 cup) milk and 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar Let it rest about 10 minutes in room
temperature

Buttermilk pie

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup soft butter
  • 1,5 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • 23 cm (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
Buttermilk pie πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Beat eggs until frothy; add butter, sugar and flour. Beat until smooth.
Stir in buttermilk, vanilla, lemon juice, zest and nutmeg; pour into pie shell.
Bake 175c for 40 to 60 minutes, or until center is firm. Or in a Air fryer 165c 40 to 60 minutes.
